What is a thread lift?

A thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure that uses absorbable medical threads (PDO or PLLA) inserted under the skin through fine needles. The threads carry tiny barbs or cogs that grip the tissues and lift them immediately — then stimulate collagen production over the following months.

The result: an immediate lift plus a gradual improvement that continues for 6-18 months after the threads dissolve. No general anaesthesia, no incisions, and no long recovery.

Thread types and their applications

📌

PDO threads (Polydioxanone)

The most common — absorbed within 6-8 months, but the collagen they stimulate remains. Available in different forms: double-barbed for lifting, and smooth for renewal and general tightening.

🔗

PLLA threads (for deep stimulation)

They stimulate deeper, longer-lasting collagen — lasting 18-24 months. Suitable for those who want rejuvenation more than an immediate lift.

🎯

Application areas

The cheeks and sides (jowl lift), the neck and under-chin, the eyebrows, the forehead area, and skin tightening at the sides of the face. Each area has a different thread technique.

🔄

Combining with fillers and Botox

"Full Face Rejuvenation" — threads for lifting, Botox for movement, filler for volume. Each one addresses a different dimension of ageing.

Threads versus a surgical facelift

✅ Threads are suitable if:

  • Sagging is mild to moderate — not severe
  • You want an improvement without a long recovery
  • You are between 35-55 years old and your skin still has reasonable elasticity
  • You want "maintenance" before reaching the stage that requires surgery
  • You cannot take a long leave for recovery

⚠️ A surgical facelift is better if:

  • Sagging is pronounced with noticeable excess skin
  • You want a result that lasts 7-10 years
  • You have already tried threads and they were not enough

Frequently asked questions

Is a thread lift painful?
We use local anaesthesia before the procedure. During the procedure you feel light pressure. Afterwards there may be mild pain and swelling for 2-3 days, treated with regular painkillers.
Can the threads be seen or felt?
Usually not — but in the first days you may feel them during certain movements. After a week or two the tissues adapt to them and they are no longer felt. Some people see a small thread entry point that disappears within days.
What happens when the threads dissolve?
The threads stimulate the body to build collagen around them — when they dissolve (after 6-8 months for PDO), the collagen remains. So the result does not vanish suddenly when the threads dissolve; it fades gradually over 12-24 months.
Can a thread lift be repeated?
Yes — many patients repeat the procedure every 12-18 months as maintenance. Repetition builds on the collagen accumulated from previous sessions, which may give a better cumulative result.
