What does a thigh lift treat?

After major weight loss or with ageing, the skin of the thigh loses its elasticity and begins to sag downwards — causing the thighs to rub against each other and making certain clothing uncomfortable to wear. No exercise will re-tighten this skin.

A thigh lift removes the excess skin and tightens what remains, giving thighs that are firmer and better proportioned with the rest of the body — especially for those who have undergone major weight loss and want to complete their transformation.

Types of thigh lift

📐

Inner thigh lift

The most common — treats the sagging skin on the inner side with an incision in the hidden groin area. It stops the thighs rubbing together and gives a cleaner line.

⬇️

Vertical thigh lift

For cases of severe sagging — an incision from the groin extending down towards the knee. The result is broader but the scar is longer. Suited to those who have lost a very large amount of weight.

🔄

Outer thigh lift

Treats the outer side and is often combined with a buttock lift in a comprehensive "Body Lift" procedure after major weight loss.

💎

Thigh liposuction with the lift

Liposuction is added to the lift to deal with fat and skin together — giving better balance in the shape of the thigh from the inside and outside.

Who benefits most?

✅ Ideal for you if:

  • You have lost a lot of weight and excess skin remains in the thigh area
  • The inner-thigh skin sags and causes painful rubbing
  • You cannot wear shorts or short dresses because of the shape
  • Your weight has been stable for at least 6 months

⚠️ Wait before deciding if:

  • Your weight is still changing — stabilise first for a permanent result
  • The problem is fat without skin sagging — liposuction is enough
  • You are planning a pregnancy soon — wait until after childbirth

Recovery path

Days 1-3
Near-complete rest

The thighs are wrapped in compression garments. Standing and light walking are allowed and encouraged to prevent blood clots.

Weeks 1-2
Limited walking only

Avoid fully straightening the legs at first. Stitches are removed after 10-14 days.

Weeks 3-4
Return to light tasks

Office work is possible. No long sitting without moving the legs.

Weeks 4-6
Gradual activity

Brisk walking and normal movement. Compression garments are still necessary.

Months 3-6
Final result

The thighs are in their stable shape. The scar improves gradually over 6-12 months.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the scar and will it be visible?
The scar lies in the groin crease (for the inner lift) — hidden beneath underwear and swimwear. For the vertical lift it extends towards the knee on the inner side. The scar fades with time and becomes a thin, light-coloured line.
Can it be combined with other procedures?
Yes — it is often combined with an arm lift and a tummy tuck within comprehensive body-contouring programmes after major weight loss. Combining reduces the number of anaesthesia sessions and recovery periods.
Will the thighs stay firm forever?
The removed skin does not come back. But if you gain weight or grow older, there will be natural change. Maintaining a stable weight is the most important factor in prolonging the life of the result.
Is there any risk of walking being affected after surgery?
Normal walking returns gradually within two weeks. At first you feel tightness when walking briskly — this is normal and disappears as the tissues relax and the swelling is absorbed.
