What is gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is the enlargement of breast tissue in men — whether due to fat accumulation (pseudo-gynecomastia), actual enlargement of the mammary gland (true gynecomastia), or both together. The condition is very common and affects around 30-60% of men to varying degrees.

The surgical solution removes the excess tissue permanently — with an almost invisible scar and rapid recovery.

Types of gynecomastia and how they are treated

💧

Fat accumulation only (Pseudo)

The enlarged tissue is fatty, not glandular. The solution: precise liposuction with fine cannulas around the areola and on both sides of the chest. Healing is fast and the scar is hidden.

Mammary gland enlargement (True)

Firm glandular tissue under the nipple that does not respond to diet or exercise. The solution: removal of the gland through a small semi-circular incision around the areola that is almost invisible.

Mixed gynecomastia

The most common: fat and gland together. The solution: liposuction plus gland removal in a single session for the most complete result.

🔷

Severe gynecomastia with sagging

Cases of severe skin sagging (after major weight loss) also require removal of excess skin along with the gland. The doctor assesses each case individually.

Who benefits most?

✅ Ideal for you if:

  • Your weight is stable and the breast size has not improved with exercise and diet for more than a year
  • Gynecomastia causes you social embarrassment or affects your self-confidence
  • You avoid certain clothes or activities (swimming, gym) because of your chest
  • Hormonal tests are normal and there is no treatable medical cause

⚠️ Important before deciding:

  • Medical causes must be ruled out first (hormones, medications, liver disease) before surgery
  • Adolescents sometimes improve spontaneously — waiting until 18-20 years of age is advised
  • Significant accompanying excess weight is best improved before surgery for a better result

Recovery path

Day 1-2
Monitoring and rest

The first night at the center or at home with a companion. Swelling and bruising are normal. The compression garment is worn immediately.

Days 5-7
Return to office work

Most patients return to work within 5-7 days. Avoid raising the arms above the head.

Week 4-6
Wearing the compression garment

The compression garment is worn for 4-6 weeks to help the skin adhere well and to reduce swelling.

Month 2-3
Return to sport

A gradual return to exercise — walking and cardio first, then chest exercises after the doctor's approval.

Month 3-6
Final result

A flat, natural chest. The result is permanent as long as you maintain a healthy weight.

Frequently asked questions about gynecomastia treatment

Will the scar show?
The incision is placed within the natural borders of the areola (the dark part around the nipple) — it is almost invisible after full healing. In liposuction-only cases there is no visible incision at all, just a very small puncture that closes on its own.
Will the gynecomastia come back?
The removed gland does not return. However, significant weight gain or the use of hormonal medication (such as steroids) can cause fat to accumulate again. Maintaining a healthy weight ensures a permanent result.
Is it painful after the operation?
Post-operative discomfort is mild and controlled with ordinary painkillers. Most patients describe the feeling as "pressure" rather than "pain". The compression garment helps reduce swelling and discomfort.
Is gynecomastia a medical or a cosmetic condition?
In some cases it is a symptom of a medical problem (a hormonal disorder, certain medications) — which is why the consultation always begins with assessing the cause. If medical causes are ruled out, cosmetic surgery becomes the definitive and most effective solution.
