Revision rhinoplasty — is it a realistic option?
Yes — but it is the most technically demanding procedure in nasal surgery. After a first operation, the nose's tissues change and scar, which complicates any adjustment. It requires a surgeon who knows how to work with previously altered tissue — specific experience that differs from primary surgery.
What can be corrected: a nose made too small, a remaining hump, a tip that did not take the intended shape, deviation, or breathing problems that appeared after the operation.

An unsatisfactory overall shape
A nose reduced too much, a tip that still does not fit, a hump that remained or appeared after another hump was removed, or a lack of harmony with the rest of the facial features.
Breathing problems
Breathing difficulty that appeared after the first operation or worsened — caused by weakened cartilage support or collapse of the side wall. Treated by adding supporting cartilage.
Asymmetry
The nose is not symmetrical between its two sides — visible in the mirror or in photos. The adjustment requires high precision because of the scarred tissue.
Cartilage grafting
Many nasal corrections need added cartilage — taken from the ear or the rib cage. Essential when too much cartilage was removed in the first operation.
When is the right time?
✅ The time is right if:
- At least 12 months have passed since the first operation — the tissues have settled
- For thick skin (the Arab nose): wait 18 months to be sure of the final shape
- You have clear before-and-after photos from the first operation
- The breathing problem is affecting your daily life
⚠️ Wait if:
- Less than 12 months have passed — the nose has not yet settled and may improve on its own
- You are unsure how significant the problem is — the consultation determines what is realistic before any decision
- Your expectation is "perfection" — no operation can guarantee that, and secondary correction is harder
Recovery path
The swelling and bruising may be greater than in the first operation because of scarring. The splint stays on for a week or more.
The swelling subsides more slowly than in the first operation because of the scarred tissue. More patience is required.
The nose looks good and acceptable. But full stabilisation takes 12-18 months.
Scarred tissue takes longer to stabilise. Careful follow-up with the surgeon throughout this period.
